There are projects that leave a lasting mark on a composer. For me, WUNDERKINDER is one of them. It was my first collaboration with Marcus O. Rosenmüller and, at the same time, the first major feature film for which I had the privilege of recording the score with the Bratislava Radio Symphony Orchestra.The film won the Yad Vashem Prize at the Jerusalem Film Festival, as well as twelve other awards for Best Film at festivals here and across Europe.“WUNDERKINDER” tells the story of three exceptionally musically gifted children who develop a deep and sincere friendship that transcends their different religions and nationalities. The two Jewish children, Larissa and Abrascha, are both virtuosos—one on the piano, the other on the violin.Hanna, a young German girl, is also extremely talented. They live in Poltava, Ukraine, in 1941, and they all share a great love: music. Their world consists of secrets among friends and adventures in which they pretend to be Native Americans in the American West. But when the Nazis invade the Soviet Union, they quickly realize that their childhood is over. They view the war through the eyes of children who see life with moral clarity. And they have no idea that Heinrich Himmler himself has chosen Poltava as the city of his postwar dreams.The young actors are exceptionally talented and play their own instruments. For weeks, they worked every morning with director Marcus O. Rosenmüller, reading, drawing, writing, and trying to grasp the immensity of the Shoah. For all lovers of classical music: the music is captivating.
